2016 Superlatives: Best in Beauty

2016 - Best in Beauty

2016 wasn’t my best year in all respects, but I have to admit, beauty game was far from disappointing!

I’m super lucky to be able to test tons of product as Beauty Editor & Content Manager of Zanita Studio, so it’s no surprise that a good chunk of my 2016 favorites come from this pile. Of course, my eyes are always wide open for the next best thing so I’m excited what 2017 brings, but before I get a head of myself, let’s look at 2016’s best in beauty!

Beauty discoveries 2016 | le jolie

just too good to be true…

In terms of most impressive, I have to say, the Le Metier de Beaute Daily Refresh Tonic had me at first touch! Toners are the one thing I can’t seem to commit to simply because I hadn’t found the one – and I’ve gone through tons of them! Yes, there were a few that felt really nice, but nothing with that wow factor… This one makes your skin tingle and you feel the effect streaming through all your pores. The oil concoction combined with Vitamins E, A, and B really treat and condition the skin. Plus, the sleek and minimal packaging can’t be beat!

My views on primers are equivalent to that of toners… However, I went for the Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer on a whim (partly because it’s so photogenic) and found myself in love. For one, it smells like a dream, and then it’s got amazing hydrating and moisturizing properties for something that feels featherweight. I bought a backup during their F&F sale late last year because it’s that good – a strong indication that something is holy grail status.

I’ve stuck by my Caudalie Beauty Elixir for years, but the Tatcha Facial Dewy Mist quickly became a favorite! This stuff keeps my skin soft, supple, and dewy even after it sets and evaporates.

As far as hair, I’m super low maintenance, but always game for anything texturizing… My hair needs all the help it can get, so I went in pilot mode with the Ouai Travel Size Kit – I don’t think it’s available anymore and sure was a pain in the arse to get a hold of, but consider me the lucky few. I initially thought the Texturizing Spray was my favorite, but realized quickly it doesn’t perform as well without the Wave Spray – this is for sure a necessity – packed with grit!

I didn’t feel like the Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Tinted Moisturizer was that special at first, but silly me – I couldn’t stop reaching for it throughout the year. For one, it looks like skin but with a nice halo effect, and two, feels like nothing! I’m still reaching for it and enjoy how luminous I look in this bitter cold.

You could say TATCHA was an overall gem in 2016 because I was also obsessed with the Supple Moisture Rich Silk Cream – it feels so cool and calming on my sensitive skin and really locks in moisture…my favorite part: the effects are instantaneous. Then, the Nuxe Reve de Miel became my absolute favorite lip balm. It has such a unique, pasty texture that keeps the lips super kissable 😉 Glossier was another game changer (it’s a brand for the cool girls) – I’m in love with the Super Stretch Concealer and Super Pure Serum (always have this on back up!). The Stretch Concealer melts into the skin and becomes undetectable while hiding imperfections and the Super Pure is a night-and-day requirement for blemish-prone skin.

And finally, for makeup, I have to hand it to ZOEVA. All three eyeshadow palettes pictured are ideal in every way. 2016 was the year I engrossed in warm rich eye makeup and these palettes made it more than possible. Best of all, they comprise of both matte and shimmery shades so you can create any look imaginable!
