Blogs I Wish Would Resurrect

Old school bloggers

It’s no doubt the landscape of blogging has changed dramatically over the last 5 years and to be honest, I miss the old school approach where bloggers posted editorial spreads and images of real style that inspired them, authentic (almost brand-less) outfits that really showcased a distinct perspective and more personality, and witty commentary about daily happenings, the fashion scene, or just random shit about life. Blogging definitely seems more promotional and money-driven than it used to be and I guess that’s fine, but that’s also where my nostalgia for old school bloggers come into play. Here’s a list of some blogs I’d like to see be revived:

1. KnighttCat – Cat Khan seriously has the best collection of editorial spreads, especially if you’re like me and you like effortless, never too pulled together vibes. I find her archives very inspirational on days you’re stuck in rut. I wish she’d come back because I’m curious to see what her posts would look like today.

2. Dead Fleurette – The perfect and most well-written minimalist blog to exist. I love her consistent focus on simplicity and high quality pieces. The photos and overall style give me warm fuzzy feelings.

3. Lulu and Your Mom – Lulu is a badass writer and really a master of putting words together. If I recall correctly, she used to include little anecdotes of her love life which was a refreshing take in the fashion world, that combined with her distinct eye really set her apart. She still posts infrequently and made it clear in a way that her blog wouldn’t be an outlet in the same way it used to be. Bummer because she was one of the originals who stayed true to her values and self (based on her blog) anyway.

4. Big Black Boots Long Brown Hair – This was a little gem in the rough, which I actually discovered after she quit posting. I love rummaging through her blog to see the last bits of a few lookbooks I missed out on during that time. Her personal style, a mesh of classic + casual + a touch English, is nice stray from the typical things we see today (i.e. too put together).

5. Robin Chang – While she wasn’t that old of a blogger I think her style really showcased her Cali-cool fashion sense, which wasn’t really a Rumi Neely wanna-be aesthetic…maybe a little referenced at times, but it didn’t seem intentional like others. She came off pretty low key and mysterious which made her that much more alluring. I still like to go through her blog every now and then.

6. FashionToastCirca 2010. Rumi still blogs regularly and I still love her as a blogger, but I found her blog at its height between 2010-2012 and those are my favorite annals til this day. I can go through those years tirelessly…she definitely had an enticing insouciance I can’t quite explain, kind of model off duty in the most perfect effortless way possible. Colin Sokol was also the mastermind behind her amazing photography at the time. So while I still pass through fashiontoast time to time, Rumi truly rocked the blogging scene during the aforementioned period.
