Low back
Slip dress

I’m starting to realize that the older I get, the picker I’m becoming about clothing and the more attention I give to the little details in a garment. As long as I look, it really isn’t that hard to find the overall idea of a specific piece I’m looking for; however, what gets me is the little details – it’s always stuff like, “why are there buttons in this spot? Why can’t this be black or white? If only this part was suede/lace/chiffon…”

Slip dresses have been quite a difficult thing for me to find due to my body having all kinds of strange proportions and the overall nature of how these dresses fall on a body. This makes me very picky. So luckily, as with most of my purchases, I found this one at Zara two years ago. The straps originally crossed in the back, which I was not in love with, but I did find the overall fit to be quite nice. You can clearly see now that the straps aren’t crossing in the back and that’s because I took my sheers to it. I already knew what I had in mind when it came to the perfect slip…a v-neck of some kind was pretty necessary because something cut straight across would just emphasize my broad shoulders which I did not want. I ended up reassembling the placement of the straps because a cross back was just too much of a hassle and created a very a-line silhouette, which was another thing I wasn’t fond of in this style.

I turned this into my glorious slip by changing the strap placement, which created an even lower back and removed the a-line structure. This simple change made the fit feel super flowy and lightweight – exactly how a slip should feel: barely there. I just hate to keep editing things I buy you know, but I’m finding myself doing this more and more…why can’t I just buy them perfectly? Anyone else having this dilemma?
